Due to recent weather conditions, the threat level for fire danger is EXTREME in our area!
Use these tips to keep your outdoor activities fire safe:

The Chesterfield Fire Department was dispatched to 55250 Baker Rd on Wednesday afternoon for a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found a ranch style home with smoke showing from the entry door on the Alpha (front) side of the dwelling and the occupants standing outside. A first alarm was requested as well as additional EMS units to provide shelter for the occupants due to inclement weather. Occupants stated that everybody was outside of the structure with the exception of three cats. A primary and a secondary hose line were deployed to the front door on the Alpha side. An interior attack was made for fire control and a primary search. Upon entry, the interior crew found and quickly extinguished the fire which was located in one of the bedrooms. A rapid primary search was conducted and an all clear and fire control were declared. The entire structure including the attached garage and attic space were checked for fire extension and a secondary search of the dwelling was conducted finding two of the three cats which were returned to the homeowners. The structure was vented horizontally with natural ventilation. DTE as well as the Water Department were requested to the scene to secure the utilities and the propane tank for the house was shut off by fire crews.
Further investigation revealed that a primary electric line located on the Charlie (rear) side of the structure had fallen onto a service drop that extended from the pole to the house causing the entire structure to energize. The homeowner stated that she heard a loud boom from the rear of the structure and that sparks started to come from all of the ceiling lights and wall outlets as the house stared to fill with black smoke.
The scene was turned over to the Fire Investigation Division to determine a cause and origin. Upon completion by the Investigator, the home was returned to the homeowner.

Chesterfield Township Firefighters responded to a possible structure fire on Saturday January 7th. Occupants reported to 911 that the bedroom was on fire with batteries involved. E-1 arrived on scene to find small 1 story, residential dwelling with moderate smoke showing. E-1 establishing water supply, stretching 1-3/4 hose line for fire control and primary search. E-3 arrived on scene and crew made entry for fire control. Macomb E-3 arrived and tasked with additional 1-3/4 to backup, through the front door. Selfridge E-4 assigned to RIT. New Baltimore Ladder 1 assigned to staging. Lenox E-2 held in level 1 staging.
Once fire was called under control, Lenox E-2 cleared from level 1 staging. Salvage covers were used to cover a vehicle in garage. Positive Pressure Ventilation was used to clear the building of smoke. Overhaul performed to identify hotspots. Gas Company arrived on scene to verify gas meter was turned off. Fire inspectors and building department notified. DTE arrived to verify meter was shut off and isolate electrical.
Residents were escorted by FD personnel to retrieve needed items from inside home. Board-up company was notified by homeowner. Building was verified as secured. Damage was confined to a bedroom with heavy smoke throughout the rest of the home. One Firefighter was treated at McLaren Macomb for a minor injury.

The Chesterfield Public Safety Deprtment wants the public to be aware that the wireless phone carriers are in the process of decommissioning 3G networks. This means that if you currently have a mobile or cellular device that still utilizes 3G technology, it will no longer work once the carriers shut down 3G service.
This change will typically affect older style 3G models of Tracfones, flip phones, Jitterbugs, and smartphones from 2008 and prior.
As 3G service is phased out, it will also impact your ability to dial 911 via your mobile phone in the event of an emergency. Some carriers may still allow emergency 911 calls with 3G devices, while other carriers and devices may not work at all.
If it’s unknown whether your 911-phone is a 3G model, check the phone’s IMEI serial number. (IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity) You may find the IMEI in one of the following ways:
– Under the “About” tab of your smartphone.
– Pressng *#06# on the phone’s keypad.
Once you have found your device’s IMEI, enter that number at https://www.imei.info which will be provide you with details on the phone and the network it is set up for. The 3G network uses frequencies at 900Mhz or 2100Mhz.
If you have a 3G cellular device – you may want to upgrade, in order to make sure you can maintain service and the ability to dial 911 via your mobile device in the event of an emergency.
Verizon has set a shut off date of December 31, 2022 for their 3G cellular service.
AT&T has set a shut off date of February 2022 for thir 3G cellular service.
